Pakistan has reopened the airspace over Islamabad after air defence systems intercepted drones near the federal capital, according to the Prime Minister’s spokesperson for foreign media.
Mosharraf Zaidi said the airspace, which had been temporarily closed as a precaution, has now been reopened after the drones were neutralized.
Earlier, senior Pakistani officials confirmed that two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were shot down by air defence after they were detected loitering near Faizabad.
Authorities had temporarily closed the airspace over Islamabad following the incident as a security measure. Officials later confirmed that the situation had been brought under control and the airspace had been reopened.
