Punjab Introduces New Guidelines for Schools

Punjab education authorities have approved a wide-ranging set of administrative and academic measures for government schools for the 2026–27 academic session.

Officials approved 34 key measures aimed at improving teaching quality, academic standards, school management and operational procedures across government schools in the province.

Under the new plan, all government schools will be required to raise donations to help cover operational expenses. Schools will also set up a Zakat Bank to support deserving students and address school-related needs. Schools will display donor boards listing contributors.

Security arrangements were also emphasized during the meeting. Authorities directed that school security must be maintained at all times, with guards or gatekeepers required to remain at the gate throughout school hours. Metal detectors must also remain functional.

Schools have additionally been instructed to establish book banks. Surplus textbooks from different classes will be collected and managed by a designated teacher serving as the Book Bank In-charge.

To increase enrollment, education officials announced the launch of a vigorous admissions campaign with a minimum target of a seven percent increase in student enrollment.

Teachers will be assigned admission targets, while schools will display banners and brochures at school gates and surrounding areas. Schools will also coordinate with local representatives and nearby feeder schools to boost admissions.

The meeting also decided that School-Based Assessment (SBA) will continue during school hours. After the assessments, marking centers will be established where teachers will check examination papers and regularly upload results.

As part of efforts to improve classroom environments, classrooms will be formally allocated to teachers, and before-and-after presentations of classroom decoration will be prepared.

Officials stressed that all official correspondence must be processed promptly, warning that pending communication will not be tolerated.

A complete ban on mobile phone use by teachers during school hours was also announced. Teachers will be required to deposit their phones in the school office, while only the headteacher and the junior clerk will be allowed to keep their phones during duty hours.

School premises will be divided among Class-IV staff for maintenance and monitoring responsibilities.

Authorities also ordered that students must attend school in complete and proper uniform, and those without uniform will not be allowed entry.

Classrooms must maintain a positive academic environment, with charts, timetables, themes, class mottos, slogans and class names clearly displayed inside and outside the rooms.

Schools will also set institutional targets, which must be prominently displayed in school offices, indicating which objectives have been completed and which remain in progress.

Officials further directed that teachers will not be allowed to leave the station without approved leave, and any absence must be immediately reported to cluster heads and recorded without delay.
