Nubia has announced a new internal testing initiative called the “Nubia Shrimp Farmer Program.” The program aims to recruit beta testers for OpenClaw AI integration on the Nubia Z80 Ultra before its public rollout.
Selected participants will test the AI system and provide feedback based on real-world usage to help the company refine the experience.
According to Nubia, the Z80 Ultra will be the first smartphone to natively integrate OpenClaw. Unlike many smartphones where AI operates as a separate application or cloud service, OpenClaw will be embedded directly into the device’s operating system.
This approach allows the AI to interact more naturally with apps, system settings, and other device functions.
Ni Fei, President of the ZTE Terminal Business Unit and President of Nubia Technology, described the device as a “Gateway type AI phone.”
The system supports ClawBot scenario-based applications and access to a wider Skills ecosystem, enabling the AI to automate tasks and work across multiple services. Nubia says this integration allows AI functions to run faster and perform tasks more directly within the operating system.
The Nubia Z80 Ultra launched on October 22 and is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Ultra (5th generation) processor.
It includes a 50MP 35mm “Master Eye” main camera with a 1/1.3 inch sensor and DCG dual conversion gain HDR technology. Nubia also offers an optional photography kit designed to enhance the camera experience.
The device starts at 4,999 yuan, which is roughly $730.
OpenClaw is an open-source AI agent designed to perform tasks beyond simple question answering.
The system can connect with apps, files, and online services to automate actions such as browsing the web, managing messages, scheduling tasks, and completing multi-step workflows.
By integrating OpenClaw directly into the operating system, Nubia aims to enable faster voice commands, smarter automation, and deeper AI functionality across everyday smartphone use.
