Punjab Govt to Consider Increasing Renewal Fees for Arm Licenses

The Punjab government is expected to review a recommendation calling for higher renewal charges for firearm licenses, according to a report.

Citing sources, the channel said the proposal suggests revising the fee structure across multiple categories of weapons.

Under the recommended rates, renewing a shotgun license would cost Rs. 25,000, while renewals for pistols and revolvers would be set at Rs. 50,000.

The proposal also puts the renewal fee for a semi-automatic rifle at Rs. 100,000, and for an automatic rifle at Rs. 250,000.

Sources said the suggested increase is aimed at strengthening and making the arms licensing system more effective. No official decision has been announced so far, and the proposal is expected to be taken up for consideration by the provincial government.

Earlier this year, the Senate Standing Committee on Interior and Narcotics Control called for the suspension of arms licenses issued to non-tax filers and requested authorities to stop issuing new licenses to individuals who do not pay taxes.

The committee expressed serious concern over data showing that 32,000 arms licenses were issued to non-tax filers, compared to only 3,000 granted to tax filers.

Members called the disparity alarming and questioned the Interior Ministry’s compliance with tax laws.
