Authorities in Karachi have launched a crackdown on bus operators accused of overcharging passengers ahead of Eid al-Fitr 2026.
The action followed a report submitted by the Secretary of the Provincial Transport Authority, after which officials ordered more than Rs1.02 million to be refunded to passengers who had been charged excessive fares.
Syed Hassan Naqvi, the Commissioner of Karachi, directed deputy commissioners and transport officials to strictly enforce official fare regulations across the city.
He also instructed bus operators to clearly display approved fare details on buses and at bus stops, warning that strict action will be taken against those found overcharging passengers.
To further address the issue, authorities will establish complaint desks at major bus stops, allowing commuters to report fare-related violations and seek immediate assistance.
