Claude Can Now Control Your Computer to Do Your Tasks

Anthropic announced an update to its Claude Code and Claude Cowork tools, enabling them to carry out tasks directly on a user’s computer.

With the latest update, Claude can open files, use a web browser, and operate developer tools. The system is designed to complete assigned tasks even when direct integrations are unavailable.

Initially, the chatbot will prioritize connectors to supported services such as Google Workspace and Slack. However, if no connector exists, Claude can still proceed with task execution independently.

Claude is expected to request user permission before performing actions on a device. Despite this safeguard, Anthropic advised users to avoid using the feature for sensitive information as a precaution.

Availability

The computer-use feature will first roll out to Claude Pro and Claude Max subscribers on macOS. It is currently available as part of a research preview and will continue to evolve based on user feedback.

The update also integrates with Anthropic’s Dispatch feature, which allows users to interact with the chatbot in a single continuous conversation across both mobile and desktop devices.

Claude Cowork, introduced in January, builds on the Claude Code AI agent for developers. It is designed to offer similar functionality in a more accessible format for general users.
