Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that the home of acclaimed Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami was struck during the recent bombardment in Iran.
In a post on X, Baghaei condemned the attacks carried out by the United States and Israel, questioning the justification behind the strikes.
Baghaei said the residence of Kiarostami, one of Iran’s most celebrated filmmakers and winner of the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 1997, was damaged in the bombing.
“Even his home was not spared from the bombs of the American-Israeli aggressors,” Baghaei wrote.
He also questioned the rationale behind the attacks, asking whether the filmmaker’s residence could be considered part of any alleged threat to the United States.
Baghaei argued that the conflict goes beyond a military confrontation.
According to the spokesperson, the war represents an assault not only on a state but also on Iran’s culture, civilisation, and national identity.
The remarks come amid escalating tensions in the region following continued military strikes involving the United States and Israel against targets in Iran.
