The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has started construction on a 2.7km stretch of Margalla Avenue to connect it with the Peshawar Motorway (M-1).
Officials said the authority has so far secured possession of around one kilometre of land, where work has begun, while the remaining land will be acquired through the Islamabad administration.
CDA had opened financial bids for the project last month, with the lowest bid coming in about 10 percent below the estimated cost of Rs. 3.58 billion, after which the work order was issued and construction commenced.
Sources said Section 4 had been imposed earlier for acquisition of around 135 kanals, but its validity will expire on April 21. They said work will continue on the available land, while a fresh Section 4 will be imposed after the expiry to acquire the remaining area.
During a meeting on Friday, Interior Secretary Mohammad Khurram Agha was briefed on the project along with other planned developments. Officials said bids will soon be opened for hiring a consultant for the Kashmir Chowk underpass.
They added that steps are also under way to hire consultants for 11th Avenue, estimated at around Rs. 9.2 billion, and a service road along the Expressway, valued at approximately Rs. 7.5 billion.
