Google has introduced a new feature in its AI assistant Google Gemini that allows users to import chat history and preferences from other AI chatbots, making it easier to switch between platforms.
AI chatbots such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini typically learn from users’ past interactions, interests, and behavior to provide more relevant responses.
Previously, users moving from one AI service to another had to start from scratch because their conversation history could not be transferred.
Google’s latest update introduces an “Import memory in Gemini” tool designed to simplify the transition.
The process works by generating a prompt that users must paste into their current chatbot. After receiving the response, users can copy it and paste it into Gemini’s import tool, allowing the system to access previously collected preferences.
Once imported, Gemini can use this information to generate more personalized and contextual responses.
Users also have another option: exporting chat history from other chatbots and uploading it directly to Gemini.
The AI assistant supports ZIP file uploads of up to 5GB, making it possible to transfer large conversation histories.
However, Google noted that project files and other attachments cannot be imported through the tool.
With the new feature, Google aims to make it easier for users to switch to Gemini without losing the personalization developed through previous interactions with other AI services.
