The Peshawar Division has finalized and activated the Dengue Action Plan 2026 to prevent the spread of the virus following recent rains and ahead of the peak dengue season.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mehsud. Participants were given a detailed briefing on the implementation status of the 2026 plan, ongoing preparations, and the future course of action.
Deputy Commissioners and District Health Officers presented updates on field activities, including surveillance, cleanliness drives, and public awareness campaigns.
The Dengue Action Plan 2026 aims to minimize the spread of dengue through coordinated efforts across multiple sectors. Key components of the plan include interdepartmental coordination, environmental management, vector surveillance, timely response, capacity building, and community participation.
The plan is structured into three phases: pre-season (February to June), peak season (July to November), and post-season (December to January). Measures include daily vector surveillance, immediate fogging in high-risk areas, larval elimination, and hospital preparedness.
A review of previous years data showed a consistent seasonal rise in dengue cases, particularly from August to October, highlighting the need for early preventive measures.
The meeting also reviewed the emergency response plan for a potential surge in cases, which includes establishing an Emergency Response Cell, rapid mobilization of resources, daily situation reporting, and targeted fogging in affected areas.
