Sindh Police have extended the deadline for motorists to replace illegal or non-standard vehicle number plates, giving citizens more time to comply before a citywide crackdown begins.
According to a police spokesperson, the deadline for installing government-approved number plates has been pushed to March 31.
The enforcement campaign will start on April 1, when authorities will take action against vehicles displaying “fancy” or private number plates.
During the operation, police will also check drivers for valid driving licenses and take legal action against violators.
Officials said the extension was granted on the orders of Karachi Police Chief Additional Inspector General (AIG) Azad Khan to facilitate the public and allow sufficient time to replace non-compliant plates.
Authorities have urged citizens to install official government-issued number plates on their vehicles and motorcycles before the deadline to avoid fines or legal action.
Meanwhile, the Sindh government has also intensified efforts to improve transport safety. The provincial transport department recently launched a crackdown on vehicles operating with fake fitness certificates.
Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon directed authorities to cancel route permits and register cases against transporters using bogus certificates to avoid mandatory vehicle inspections.
The minister said fake fitness certificates pose a serious threat to public safety and warned that strict action would be taken against those involved.
Officials said the government aims to make the province’s transport system safer, transparent and law-abiding through stricter enforcement and accountability measures.
