RawalPindiz pacer Naseem Shah issued a public apology after being fined Rs. 20 million by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over a controversial tweet about Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the 23-year-old said the post was made by his management team and did not reflect his personal views. However, Naseem Shah accepted full responsibility for the content shared from his account.
“A recent post from my account was made by my management team and does not reflect my views,” Naseem said.

His apology came hours after the PCB announced disciplinary action against him for breaching clauses of his central contract and social media guidelines.
In an official statement, the PCB said a show-cause notice had been issued on March 27, 2026, outlining the violations and requesting a response. After reviewing his reply, a three-member disciplinary committee held a personal hearing on March 30.
“Whilst noting the unconditional apology tendered, Naseem is found to have breached various clauses of his Central Contract and a fine of Rs. 2 crores has been imposed,” the PCB stated.
The board also confirmed that Naseem had already terminated his social media adviser, who has now been blacklisted from working with any PCB-contracted players.
The controversy began during the opening ceremony of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, where Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz attended as the guest of honor.
During the event, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi welcomed her and introduced her to franchise owners and players. She also extended her best wishes to the participating teams.
Shortly after, a post from Naseem Shah’s X account drew attention. The now-deleted message was a quote retweet of a PCB post showing Naqvi greeting Maryam Nawaz, and it read: “Why is she being treat like the queen at Lords?”
The post quickly went viral, sparking widespread debate across social media and within the cricket community. Initially addressing the issue, Naseem claimed that his account had been hacked and that the post was not intentional.

Mohsin Naqvi is the Chairman PCB and he is enjoying under the umbrella of Maryam and Zardari, so any remarks by anyone against Maryam and Zardari would be taken up very seriously by the failed and worst ever chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
