Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal announced on Tuesday that the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) will be conducted six days after the announcement of intermediate (FSc) results from next year.
Speaking to the media at Parliament House, the minister said the decision had been approved by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) as part of reforms in the medical college admission process.
Aim to Reduce Dependence on Coaching Academies
The minister said the revised schedule aims to reduce students’ reliance on expensive private coaching academies.
Currently, students face a gap of four to six months between the declaration of FSc results and the MDCAT exam. According to Kamal, this delay has encouraged a large coaching industry that charges high fees for exam preparation.
He said the new policy would save students and families millions of rupees and reduce the need for separate preparation for multiple examinations.
Policy Designed to Support Middle-Class Students
Kamal said the reform would help create a more level playing field for students from middle-income families.
He noted that students from wealthier households often have greater access to costly coaching academies, while many others struggle to afford such facilities.
The minister added that the new system will come into effect with the next round of intermediate results, making the admission process faster and more accessible for aspiring medical students.
