Punjab Changes Rules for Teacher Transfers

The Punjab School Education Department has taken a key step under its E-Transfer Policy by deciding to conduct personal hearings for transfer requests submitted on hardship grounds.

According to sources, the move aims to ensure a more effective and transparent evaluation of teachers’ transfer cases. To facilitate this, special scrutiny committees have been formed to review applications in detail.

Officials revealed that separate committees have been established based on grades. One committee will handle cases of officers in Grade 17 and above, while another will review applications from employees up to Grade 16.

The Additional Secretary of the School Education Department has been appointed as the convener of both committees. Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of the respective districts will also serve as members, ensuring local-level input in the decision-making process.

The committees will examine appeals on a case-by-case basis and are required to submit their recommendations within 10 days.

The department stated that following recent amendments to the E-Transfer Policy, all appeals will now undergo formal hearings. This change is expected to improve transparency and enable quicker, more efficient decisions in the teacher transfer process.
