Has Punjab Announced Three Weekly Holidays for Schools? [Updated]

Update: Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has now confirmed the revised four-day school week in a post on X.

A notification circulating on social media claims that all public and private schools across Punjab will shift to a four-day week, with Friday and Saturday observed as weekly holidays, while Sunday remains a regular weekly off.

The document, attributed to the Punjab School Education Department and dated April 1, 2026, states that schools will remain open from Monday to Thursday.

It also outlines revised timings, with single-shift schools operating from 8:00 am to 1:30 pm, while double-shift institutions will run morning classes from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm and afternoon sessions from 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

The notification further directs chief executive officers (DEAs) to ensure compliance with the instructions. However, no official confirmation of this notification has been issued by the Punjab government so far.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has not issued any clarification regarding the circulating document. Earlier in the day, the minister said that educational institutions across the province would continue to operate five days a week to maintain continuity in academic activities.

A few days ago, the provincial government had also rejected a similar notification suggesting a Monday-to-Thursday school schedule, declaring it fake.
