The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department has introduced a four-day working week in public educational institutions across the province.
According to an official notification, schools will now observe holidays on Friday and Saturday, while the new schedule took effect from April 1, 2026.
Under the revised schedule:
Officials said the change was introduced due to rising fuel prices and supply shortages, aiming to reduce operational costs and transportation expenses.
Meanwhile, schools across Punjab have reopened from today after being closed under austerity measures and fuel conservation efforts.
The provincial government had suspended physical classes from March 10 to March 31, during which students continued their studies through online classes.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said educational activities have now resumed normally across the province.
He added that schools in Punjab will continue operating five days a week, with regular teaching activities restored.
The minister emphasized the need for collective efforts to overcome challenges facing the education sector.
