Multan Sultans’ veteran Australian pacer Peter Siddle has fully embraced his new nickname “chacha” during his stint in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11).
The Australian fast bowler reveals that he now proudly identifies himself as the “foreign chacha” of the squad.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, the 41-year-old shared how the nickname originated during his time in Australia’s Big Bash League, where Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf first started calling him “chacha.”
“As all the boys call me… chacha… so I know the new nickname,” Siddle said with a smile.
Peter Siddle explained that the nickname quickly stuck and carried over into the PSL dressing room, where teammates have continued the trend. According to Siddle, the moment was sealed when he was asked to pose for a picture with Iftikhar Ahmed, who is already widely known among fans as “chacha.”
“I think it’s just I played with Haris Rauf this year in the Big Bash at the Stars. So yeah, he was calling me that this season. So that stuck with me. And then the boys last night made me get a photo with Ifti. I think Mohammad Nawaz loves calling me chacha. So, I think it’s going to stick. I’m the foreign chacha, and Ifti can be the local chacha,” he added.
The term “chacha,” which literally translates to “paternal uncle,” is commonly used in Pakistan as a sign of affection and respect. In cricketing circles, it often reflects a player’s seniority, experience, and their role as a dependable, elder presence within the squad.
Siddle’s decorated international career adds weight to the nickname. The experienced pacer represented Australia national cricket team in 67 Test matches, claiming 221 wickets. He also featured in 20 ODIs and a couple of T20 Internationals before transitioning into franchise cricket around the world.
Now in the twilight of his career, Siddle appears to be enjoying both his cricket and the camaraderie in the PSL, where his “foreign chacha” persona is quickly becoming a fan favorite.
