Karachi recorded its heaviest April rainfall in over four decades, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The city received 38.6 millimeters of rain within 24 hours, surpassing the previous April record of 37.0 millimeters set in 1985. This marks the highest rainfall recorded in Karachi for the month of April in 41 years.
The record-breaking rain led to a noticeable drop in temperature across the city. Thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy downpours created weather conditions that felt more like December than April.
The minimum temperature dropped to 16°C overnight, which is 5.8°C below the normal average. Typically, Karachi experiences an average temperature of 21.8°C in April, but the recent rainfall system made the weather unusually cooler.
Rainfall began early Thursday morning, April 2, under the influence of a western weather system. The intensity increased by the afternoon, with heavy showers affecting different parts of the city. Rain continued late into the night, with several areas receiving strong downpours.
As a result, the weather across Karachi turned significantly cooler, with a clear drop in temperature observed throughout the city.
