RawalPindiz Aim for Comeback After Fourth Straight PSL 11 Setback

RawalPindiz captain Mohammad Rizwan expressed hope that the upcoming Karachi leg of the Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) 11 will bring a change in fortunes after his team suffered a seven-wicket defeat to table-toppers Multan Sultans at Gaddafi Stadium.

The RawalPindiz, making their PSL debut, have now lost all four of their opening matches. The latest defeat has further dented their chances of qualifying for the playoffs, which will feature the top four teams at the end of the league stage.

The team currently sits seventh in the standings, ahead of fellow debutants Hyderabad Kingsmen only due to a slightly better net run rate of -1.625. With their campaign under pressure, RawalPindiz urgently need a turnaround to stay in contention.

Their next match is scheduled for April 10 against last season’s runners-up Quetta Gladiators at National Bank Stadium in Karachi. The venue will host all of their remaining league-stage matches.

Rizwan remained optimistic that the shift to Karachi could help reset the team’s momentum, while also acknowledging the need for adjustments.

“We definitely need a fresh start as we head to Karachi. We’ll be looking to make some tactical adjustments based on the conditions there, and hopefully, our luck starts to turn as well,” Rizwan said after the loss.

He also noted the challenges of maintaining balance in franchise cricket, particularly when making changes to the playing XI.

“In franchise cricket, making even a single change often requires a couple more to maintain the right balance, especially with overseas player requirements. However, whenever you step onto the field, the goal is always to go out with a balanced side,” he added.

Reflecting on the team’s struggles, Rizwan identified the toss as a major factor in recent matches. He indicated that early pitch conditions have made batting difficult, with the ball gripping early and leaving the team around 10 to 20 runs short, which ultimately affects the final result.
