Sindh’s Bike Fuel Subsidy Portal Goes Offline After Hacking Attempts

The online portal launched by the Sindh government for its motorcycle fuel subsidy programme was temporarily taken offline after repeated hacking attempts, according to Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla.

The portal was introduced a day earlier to allow registered motorcyclists to apply for a monthly fuel subsidy of Rs. 2,000 by submitting their CNIC and bank account details online. However, many users complained that they were unable to access the system for hours shortly after its launch.

Speaking at a press conference, Chawla said the platform had been shut down as a precaution after multiple hacking attempts but has since been secured and restored.

He added that around 15,000 people have so far registered their motorcycles under the scheme, while 3,000 applicants successfully completed the subsidy process. According to him, payments of Rs. 2,000 each have already been transferred to 1,500 beneficiaries through Sindh Bank accounts.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the programme targets a much larger group, noting that around 6.7 million motorcycles are registered across Sindh. Under the scheme, eligible owners are to receive Rs. 2,000 per month.

The temporary disruption comes just as the provincial government begins rolling out one of its key relief measures for commuters hit by rising fuel costs. While the portal is back online, the early technical trouble may raise concerns about the system’s ability to handle applications at scale.
