The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a one-month waiver of schedule tax and stand tax for the transport sector as part of relief measures aimed at reducing passenger fares.
The decision was made during a video-link meeting chaired by Commissioner Peshawar Division and Chairman of the Regional Transport Authority, Riaz Khan Mehsud.
Under the new directive, both schedule tax and stand tax have been waived for one month across all districts. Transporters have been instructed to pass the full benefit of this relief on to passengers by reducing fares accordingly.
Commissioner Mehsud issued strict instructions to ensure effective monitoring of fares. He ordered the deployment of three assistant commissioners in each district to check fares at transport stands and major highways. He also directed all deputy commissioners to personally supervise field operations to prevent overcharging.
Transporters have been further instructed to prominently display the government-approved fare list on the front of every vehicle so passengers can easily see the official rates.
The meeting was held in the context of the commissioner’s recent visits to passenger stands, GT Road, and the motorway in Peshawar. The main objective is to ensure the uniform implementation of reduced fares across all districts and to provide maximum relief to the public.
