Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi inaugurated an upgraded Safari train in Rawalpindi on Sunday and highlighted reforms aimed at strengthening tourism-oriented rail services.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony at Rawalpindi Railway Station, Hanif Abbasi said the Ministry of Railways was implementing wide-ranging measures to modernize the railway system, with results already emerging.
He said authorities upgraded the Safari train with modern facilities, including air-conditioned coaches, redesigned seating, and an improved family-friendly environment. He said the department converted the train into a tourism-focused recreational service that includes short stopovers at multiple stations and planned activities for passengers.
He added that the service offers extended stays and lunch arrangements at scenic locations, including Attock Khurd. Hanif Abbasi said the train’s occupancy has increased significantly, which reflects growing public trust in railway services.
He said the ministry is working to improve operational performance by deploying railway officers in the field. He also recognized the efforts of railway workers, stating that they continue to perform their duties under difficult conditions and play a vital role in restoring the system.
