Sony Pictures revealed an unexpected project during its presentation at CinemaCon, confirming that an R-rated animated film based on Bloodborne is currently in development.
Jacksepticeye to Lead the Project
The film is being produced by popular YouTuber Seán McLoughlin, widely known as Jacksepticeye. The Irish content creator launched his YouTube channel nearly 14 years ago and has since grown it to more than 31 million subscribers.
McLoughlin has prior experience in film and television, including a cameo role in Free Guy and voice work in Sonic Prime. He was also previously named executive producer of Godmother, an indie thriller directed by John Veron, which began production on December 2 in New Mexico.
McLoughlin shared his reaction in a post on the Bloodborne subreddit, expressing strong enthusiasm for the project and committing to delivering a high-quality adaptation. He described the game as his favorite and acknowledged the dedication of its fanbase, while noting that more details cannot yet be disclosed.
Animated Format Seen as Practical Choice
The decision to develop the project as an animated film may help manage production costs, as a live-action adaptation would likely require a significantly larger budget.
While many fans have hoped for a remake or sequel, the project may also serve as a way for Sony to assess continued interest in the franchise. Reports previously indicated that FromSoftware declined a remake proposal from Bluepoint Games, which was later shut down.
Updates on Other Gaming Adaptations
Sony also shared progress on several other game-based projects during the presentation. The Helldivers film, starring Jason Momoa, is scheduled to begin production in New Zealand in the coming weeks. The film will be directed by Justin Lin, with a script written by Gary Dauberman.
Meanwhile, the live-action The Legend of Zelda has completed filming. Sony confirmed its release date as May 7, 2027. The film is directed by Wes Ball and stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason as Link and Zelda.
Sony also showcased a new trailer for Resident Evil, directed by Zach Cregger. The movie is set to release in theaters on September 18, 2026.

Well that’s one way of making everyone hate you.
They are worried about costs so they hired a youtuber instead of competent script writer or someone who worked on the game from fromsofttware.
Let’s not forget Sony used Tom Holland as Jake and Wahlberg as sulley. While the movie was Somewhat a success financially, it barely made beyond a chinese movie.
