Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday directed the expansion of the pink electric scooter scheme for women across Sindh during a series of meetings at Bilawal House, where key public issues were also reviewed.
During a meeting with Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Bilawal was briefed on the ongoing distribution of pink electric scooters in Karachi. Expressing satisfaction over the initiative, he instructed authorities to extend the program in phases to women across the province.
Separately, officials decided to roll out the scheme in Sukkur and Hyderabad, where distribution ceremonies are expected to be held soon. Under the initiative, electric scooters are being provided free of cost to eligible women to improve mobility and access to education and employment.
According to the eligibility criteria, applicants must be permanent residents of Sindh and either students or working women. They must also hold a valid driving license for a motorbike or car.
Officials said beneficiaries will not be allowed to sell or transfer the scooters for at least seven years, while those selected through a transparent balloting process will be required to undergo a road safety skill test. Authorities will also organize free training programs across Sindh to equip women with the necessary riding skills.
