RawalPindiz rising all-rounder Saad Masood has opened up about the highs and lows of his early career in an exclusive interview, sharing insights into his international debut, key learning moments, and his ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL 11) campaign.
Saad Masood, who recently earned his Pakistan cap, described the milestone as a lifelong dream. “It was a big moment for me, my family and everyone,” he said, recalling the journey that led to his debut.
However, his first international outing did not unfold as expected. While he contributed 38 off 44 balls in his ODI debut against Bangladesh and stitched a crucial 79-run partnership with Agha Salman, a key moment proved costly.
With the team at 161-6 chasing 290, Masood attempted an aggressive shot against Mustafizur Rahman but was bowled, halting the momentum. The side eventually fell short by 11 runs, losing the series 2–1.
Reflecting on that moment, Masood admitted, “My decision was wrong… because of which we lost the series.”
The experience, however, also exposed him to the demands of international cricket, particularly during his encounter with Bangladesh fast bowler Nahid Rana.
“I felt a difference when I faced Nahid Rana against Bangladesh. It actually made me feel like I was up against a proper fast bowler. He felt different from other pacers. There isn’t anyone similar in domestic cricket,” Masood said, describing it as a clear step up from what he had previously experienced.
Shifting focus to his current campaign, Masood spoke about his role with Rawalpindiz in PSL 11, where he is currently featuring.
He said the team environment has played a significant role in his development, particularly due to the presence of experienced figures such as captain Mohammad Rizwan and bowling coach Courtney Walsh.
“It is good luck when you share the dressing room with so many legends,” Masood said, adding that Rizwan’s leadership has helped maintain a positive and focused atmosphere within the squad. “He stays away from negativity. Like he has a personality.”
Discussing the team’s approach, Masood emphasized that consistency of effort remains key in T20 cricket. “In T20 you cannot say anything in advance… the effort is in your hands,” he said, noting that Rawalpindiz’s strong start to the tournament reflects the team’s overall balance.
He also acknowledged the absence of crowds and expressed his appreciation for local supporters. “We are obviously missing you in stadiums,” he said, hoping to reconnect with fans as the season progresses.
