The Punjab Assembly has passed key amendments to reduce traffic fines across the province, offering relief to motorists. The revised law will come into effect after final approval from the Governor of Punjab.
The legislation, titled the Provincial Motor Vehicles (Fourth Amendment) Ordinance 2025, received majority approval in the assembly after clearance from the relevant standing committee.
Under the new law, fines for motorcycles have been significantly reduced, with some penalties cut from Rs2,000 to Rs1,000. Authorities have also capped the maximum fine for motorcycles at Rs2,000.
Rickshaw drivers will also benefit, as certain fines have been lowered from Rs3,000 to Rs1,000, while more serious violations will now carry a penalty of Rs2,000.
For car and jeep owners, fines for minor offences have been reduced from Rs5,000 to Rs2,000. However, penalties for serious violations remain unchanged at Rs5,000.
The amendments maintain existing fines for speeding across all vehicle categories. For vehicles with engine capacity above 2000cc, fines have been reduced from Rs20,000 to Rs10,000, with a minimum penalty set at Rs2,000.
Transport sector operators will also see relief, as fines for Mazda trucks, coasters, and light passenger vans have been cut from Rs20,000 to Rs7,000.
Similarly, maximum penalties for heavy vehicles, including buses and trucks, have been reduced from Rs20,000 to Rs10,000.
The move aims to balance enforcement with public relief while maintaining penalties for serious traffic violations.

Also list out the traffic violations because Traffic police unnecessarily fine people .For example when green light is on for turning on a UTurn and going ahead simultaneously why is a vehicle fine if it uses the Uturn lane to go ahead when light is green and vehicles moving . Speed limits of 100 kph is ridiculous on main highways. Fast lanes should be maximum 150 kph, centre lane maximum 140 kph and slow lane for HTV 120 kph.
Despite this reduction in fines, we find that the children and drivers of high officials drive at full speed and sometimes, cause major traffic accidents on the Ring Road or motorways of Pakistan. What is the point of such reductions for the common citizen whereas, these high officials children and drivers, get away with murder also!
What about the lane and parking over zebra crossing violation. Any fines issued before will be reduced?
