Vivo Y500s Can Retain 80% of Its Massive 7,200 mAh Battery Health After Six Years

Vivo has announced the Y500s, a new affordable smartphone that improves on the recently launched Y6t.

While the Y6t arrived with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset, a 6.74-inch display, and a 6,500mAh battery, the new Y500s adds a larger battery, better cameras, and stronger durability features.

Design and Display

The vivo Y500s features a 6.75-inch LCD with a resolution of 720 x 1,570 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and animations.

An 8MP front camera with an f/2.1 aperture is placed at the top of the display. The phone also includes a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for security.

For durability, the device carries IP68 and IP69 ratings, protecting against water immersion and high-pressure water jets. Stereo speakers are included as well, along with a one-button cleaning mode that helps remove water from the speakers after accidental exposure.

The Y500s comes in Obsidian Black, Galaxy Silver, and Phoenix Gold color options.

Internals and Software

The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor. Although it is an older chipset, it is built on a 4nm process and includes 5G connectivity.

Vivo is offering several memory and storage options, with the base model starting at 8GB RAM and 256GB storage.

Cameras

The rear camera setup includes a 50MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture. This is a clear upgrade over the Vivo Y6t, which features a 13MP rear camera. For selfies and video calls, the phone includes an 8MP front camera.

Battery and Pricing

The Vivo Y500s packs a 7,200 mAh single-cell battery rated at 28.23Wh typical capacity. It supports 44W FlashCharge through USB-C using an 11V/4A charging standard.

The battery uses Vivo’s Blue Ocean 3 technology, which is designed to charge safely in temperatures from -20°C to 40°C. Vivo says it can retain at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,600 charge cycles, which the company estimates is enough for six years of normal use.

The 8GB + 256GB variant is priced at $265. The 12GB + 256GB version costs $320, while the 8GB + 512GB model is also priced at $320.
