iPhone Ultra May Not Be a Maxed Out iPhone, But a Different Device Entirely

iPhones and MacBooks have been rumored to receive a new Ultra model soon, but newer leaks suggest that this new iPhone Ultra may not be what we think.

It was previously believed that the iPhone Ultra and MacBook Ultra would simply be maxed-out variants of their current models, but that may not be true at all.

A new rumor claims that Apple’s first foldable phone will be called iPhone Ultra rather than iPhone 18 Ultra. This would mirror the company’s naming approach with the iPhone Air, which also uses separate branding from the main numbered iPhone lineup.

Using the Ultra name could give Apple flexibility to release future foldable models on a schedule separate from its standard iPhone range.

Launch Timing

Apple is reportedly working to launch the iPhone Ultra alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.

However, the foldable device could still reach the market a few weeks later. All three products are said to be planned for announcement during the same September event.

MacBook Ultra

The report also claims Apple is developing a MacBook Ultra with an OLED touchscreen display.

If launched, it would become the first MacBook to feature both a touchscreen and an OLED panel. The device is expected to cost significantly more than the current MacBook Pro lineup, which already costs a whopping $1699.

The MacBook Ultra is now tipped to arrive in the first half of 2027, later than earlier expectations. The delay is reportedly linked to RAM supply issues.

The rumor adds that the laptop could offer a new feature set compared with Apple’s existing notebooks, though no further details were shared.

iPad Ultra

The next Ultra-branded Apple product after that could be a foldable iPad Ultra.

The report claims the device has been a priority for John Ternus, who is referenced as Apple’s next CEO. It is also expected to become the company’s most expensive iPad if released.
