Pakistan Awards Smart Metering Contracts Worth $16.85 Million to China’s Wasion

China’s Wasion Holdings Limited has secured smart metering contracts in Pakistan worth over RMB115 million, approximately $16.85 million, as the country moves to modernize its power distribution system.

The company said its subsidiary, Wasion Group Limited, won bids in April 2026 for smart metering products and related services, highlighting its growing presence in international energy projects.

Wasion said the contracts reflect its technical strength in integrated energy solutions and its expanding footprint in South Asia, supported by its product portfolio and localized service network.

The development comes as Pakistan accelerates efforts to improve efficiency in its power sector, where losses, theft, and billing inefficiencies remain major challenges.

Last week, Pakistan’s Power Division signed an agreement with the International Finance Corporation to roll out 10 million smart meters across power distribution companies. Under the agreement, the IFC will act as transaction advisor and assess models for large-scale deployment, including public-private partnerships.

Smart meters are expected to help reduce power losses, improve billing accuracy, and enhance monitoring of electricity consumption across the country.

Wasion Holdings is a leading Chinese provider of advanced metering and energy management solutions, offering products such as smart electricity, gas, and water meters, along with data systems and energy monitoring tools.
