Just Pakistani Things: Vice-Chancellor’s Son Wins 15 Gold Medals

The Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences has gone viral after social media users questioned the results of its latest convocation, where Dr. Hammad Azhar, the son of Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ikram Din Ujjan, was reported to have secured first position in 15 subjects and received 15 gold medals.

The issue gained attention after a video from the convocation went viral online, triggering discussion over merit, transparency and fairness in the university’s award process. While some users have raised concerns about possible favoritism, others have called for an official explanation before drawing conclusions.

So far, no formal clarification has been issued by the university regarding the concerns circulating on social media.

The 21st Annual Convocation of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, along with the second convocation of Bilawal Medical College, was held on April 25, 2026, at the LUMHS campus. According to details shared at the event, a total of 1,707 students were awarded degrees and diplomas, including 1,435 graduates and 272 postgraduates.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ikram Din Ujjan highlighted several recent developments at the university. He said the institution had expanded through the establishment of Bilawal Medical College for Boys, the Liaquat Institute in Thatta, LUMHS Services Hospital and a network of diagnostic laboratories offering services at subsidized rates.

He also pointed to academic collaborations with institutions in the United States, the United Kingdom and China.

Sindh Minister for Universities and Boards Muhammad Ismail Rahoo, who attended the convocation as chief guest, praised the provincial government’s focus on the health and education sectors.

However, the conversation surrounding the event has largely shifted to the controversy online, with many now waiting to see whether the university addresses the questions being raised about the medal awards.

  • Oh absolutely—no doubt about it. Dr. Hammad Azhar must be running a luxurious little private clinic, conveniently pre-packaged by his extremely prestigious father, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ikram Din Ujjan.

And obviously, the clinic isn’t just a clinic—it’s more of a museum. Patients probably don’t book appointments; they book guided tours.

    Step one: remove shoes.
Step two: admire the wall of gold medals, certificates, framed newspaper clippings, and maybe a dramatic spotlight or two.
Step three—only after proper appreciation of the family legacy—are you finally worthy of medical attention.

Naturally, treatment can wait. What really matters is that every patient fully understands the academic bloodline before a single question about symptoms is asked. The stethoscope probably comes second; the speech about “my father’s achievements” comes first.

By the time patients leave, they’re not just cured—they’re educated, inspired, and slightly overwhelmed, having survived a full walk-through of the Achievement Exhibition before even reaching the doctor’s chair.
