Sony is reportedly rolling out a new 30-day online check-in requirement for some digital PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games.
According to Tom’s Hardware, affected titles now display a validity period and a remaining time counter on their information pages.
The reported system appears to apply to digital game purchases.
Players are said to need an internet connection at least once within a rolling 30-day period to keep the game license active. If the console does not reconnect in time, access to the game could be temporarily blocked.
Users can reportedly restore access later, but only after reconnecting online and renewing the license.
The report said the new check-in requirement currently seems limited to games installed after the March firmware update.
There is no indication yet that all existing digital titles are affected.
Some users reportedly said that setting a PS4 or PS5 as the primary console does not remove the new requirement.
If accurate, that would mean newly downloaded games may still need regular online verification regardless of console settings.
The reported change has triggered criticism from some PlayStation owners online.
Users have raised concerns that the policy could weaken offline gaming, including access to single-player titles, if consoles remain disconnected from the internet for extended periods.
