Participants of the International Narowal Peace Dialogue 2026 have lauded Pakistan’s proactive and constructive role in regional stability. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Pakistan was recognised for its dedication to de-escalation, the promotion of dialogue, and the creation of essential diplomatic space during periods of heightened regional tension. The Dialogue heralded these efforts as a continuation of Pakistan’s historic commitment to peace and responsible international engagement.
From Personal Tragedy to Global Mission
A central theme of the event was the tribute paid to the courage and vision of Professor Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives. Participants honored his ability to transform the personal tragedy of surviving an extremist attack into a lifelong mission for peace and tolerance.
In his keynote address, Minister Ahsan Iqbal described the Dialogue as a vital initiative for broadcasting a message of unity and harmony to the world. He remarked that Pakistan’s youth have resoundingly rejected the narratives of hatred, emerging instead as global ambassadors for coexistence.
Transforming Narowal: The City of Knowledge
Minister Iqbal shared a vision of Narowal’s future, describing its transformation into a “City of Knowledge” designed to serve as a regional hub for education and development. Reflecting on the attack he survived, the Minister emphasized that such experiences only reinforce the urgency of ridding society of extremism and sectarianism. He noted that the assault on his life was the byproduct of a “toxic mindset” that seeks to turn honest differences into violent hostility.
“The world today is in dire need of peace,” the Minister stressed, “and Narowal is sending a clear message: dialogue is the only antidote to hatred.” He reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to the principles of its Founder, calling for mutual respect and the protection of the rights and dignity of all citizens, regardless of their faith.
A Message of Inclusivity and Resilience
The Minister further emphasized that Islam is a religion of peace and compassion, noting that true faith is reflected in actions that provide safety and comfort to others. He asserted that no individual holds the authority to judge another’s faith and urged the public to discourage propaganda in favor of inclusivity.
While acknowledging the immense losses Pakistan has suffered due to terrorism, he credited the resilience of the nation, its armed forces, and its institutions for restoring stability. He also specifically highlighted the Paigham-e-Pakistan initiative as a successful collective effort by religious scholars to promote a counter-narrative to extremism.
International and Local Perspectives
The Dialogue featured distinguished international guests, including the former Prime Minister of Morocco, Dr. Saad Dine El Otmani. Expressing his deep affection for Pakistan, Dr. El Otmani noted that he had traveled across the globe to participate out of admiration for the initiative. He described the Narowal Peace Dialogue as an effective platform for global stability and praised Pakistani students for their role in advancing social harmony.
Adding a local perspective, Member of the Provincial Assembly Ahmad Iqbal stated that Narowal has evolved into a symbol of coexistence at a time when the world is grappling with increasingly complex conflicts. He paid tribute to the nation’s sacrifices, noting that Pakistan’s strength is rooted in its ability to withstand and overcome adversity.
