Samsung has launched the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra at its Galaxy Unpacked event in London. The standard Z Fold 8 is now Samsung’s first-ever wide foldable, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is a more premium edition of the Galaxy Fold series we’re used to.
Design and Display
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a 7.6-inch foldable AMOLED display with a 2448 x 1848 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The aspect ratio has been adjusted to 4:3, giving it a wider shape when opened.
On the outside, it has a 5.5-inch AMOLED cover screen with a 1248 x 1972 resolution. Samsung says the Galaxy Z Fold8 is its lightest Galaxy Z Fold smartphone to date.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 measures 4.5mm when unfolded and weighs 201 grams. It is available in Graphite, Cream, Lavender, and an online-exclusive Pistachio color option.
The 4:3 aspect ratio of the inner display is optimized for watching videos and gaming, while rotating the phone switches to a 3:4 layout that Samsung says is more natural for reading books and browsing the web.
The 10:16 cover display is also designed to provide a more familiar smartphone experience for everyday use.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has a larger 8.0-inch Dynamic AMOLED inner display with a 2256 x 2504 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and up to 3,000 nits peak brightness.
Its cover screen measures 6.5 inches and has a 2520 x 1080 resolution with a 120Hz refresh rate.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra measures 4.1mm when unfolded and weighs 218 grams. It comes in Graphite, Cream, Violet Shadow, and an online-exclusive Green Shadow color option.
According to Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the thinnest Galaxy Z Fold ever. The company says it has refined the folding magnets, hinge mechanism, display tension, and edge design to create a smoother folding experience while making the device easier to unfold.
Samsung’s proprietary Flex Titanium technology is also used to reduce the visibility of the display crease while improving durability.
Internals and Software
Both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 comes with 12GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB storage. Samsung is also offering a higher-end version with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage.

Both models run Samsung’s latest software experience with Galaxy AI features. Neither phone supports expandable storage.
AI Features
Samsung highlighted several new Galaxy AI features for the Fold 8 series. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra introduces Gemini Notebook, which can summarize PDFs and audio recordings before transforming them into formats such as presentation slides, AI-generated videos, podcasts, and quizzes.
Samsung also expanded its agentic AI experience with Now Nudge. On the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the feature can automatically suggest opening compatible apps in Multi Window when multitasking is appropriate. For example, it can recommend adding dinner plans received in a messaging app directly to the Calendar while opening both apps side by side.
Samsung says the Galaxy Z Fold 8 also supports a more advanced agentic AI experience. During the launch, the company demonstrated Gemini searching for hotels near the Eiffel Tower while the user continued using other apps, allowing recommendations to be reviewed before confirming the final booking
Cameras
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has a dual rear camera setup.
It includes a 50MP main camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a 50MP ultrawide camera with an f/1.9 aperture. For selfies and video calls, the phone has a 10MP inner camera and a 10MP cover camera.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has a triple rear camera setup.
It includes a 200MP main camera with OIS and PDAF, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 10MP telephoto camera with OIS, PDAF, and 3x optical zoom.
The Ultra model also has a 10MP inner selfie camera and a 10MP cover camera.
Battery and Pricing
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 packs a 4,800mAh battery. It supports 45W wired charging and wireless charging. Samsung says the phone can offer up to 26 hours of video playback.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra has a larger 5,000 mAh battery. It supports 45W wired charging, wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at $1,899, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra starts at $2,099.
