Private Schools Reject Punjab’s Summer Vacation Schedule

Major private school associations across Pakistan have rejected the Punjab government’s decision to announce summer vacations from May 22 to August 23 for educational institutions.

Representatives of the associations termed the nearly three month break harmful for the education system and announced plans to challenge the decision in the Lahore High Court, including its Rawalpindi, Multan, and Bahawalpur benches.

The associations said such lengthy vacations could negatively impact students’ academic activities and increase dropout risks.

All Pakistan Private Schools and Colleges Association President Dr. Abrar Hussain Malik criticized the early closure of schools and said long breaks reduce students’ interest in studies while increasing screen time and non academic activities.

He warned that millions of children are already out of school in Pakistan and extended vacations could further affect educational continuity.

“All Pakistan Private Schools Colleges Association” President Irfan Muzaffar Kayani said the decision would damage the education system and suggested holidays should instead be observed from June 1 to August 14.

He also called for permission to organize summer camps for classes nine and ten. Other private school representatives proposed reducing vacation duration and adjusting school timings during extreme heat instead of shutting schools for nearly three months.

  • vapes, pods and every trash kids learn are from these schools. screen time is a negative but not as bad as the ethical downfall and rotten rote-based education that students are forced to cram.

Go and lodge a case and waste your money that you have made by looting the parents.

  • It sounds really funny when private schools pretend to care so much about students. The reality is that all they care about are the fees.

  • Wrong thinking ya ye kahlen k private schools ki feeses jati han eslie enko masla hota hai koi b bachon ka khayal nai karta koi b eunka nai sochta bs academics academic ki ratty lagai hoti hai government decision is very good because heat is too much dangerous

  • There's a difference of total 7 working days between the government's decision and the private schools demand. And they have decided to go to court 🙄

  • Subjecting children to zero structure for long periods is how you bring disaster and a lack of focus to their adult lives.
By staying at home for a quarter of a year with no academic activities, the student can loose all discipline. Something that my fellow students may not realize yet is how destructive that can really be for both academics and our personal lives.

  • I am someone that moved to Pakistan 15 + years ago from the West, where school holidays ran from the beginning of June to the very end of August. It was a time for kids to be kids, to go on vacation with fanily, to participate in sports, to read non-academic books, to build friendships outside of school, to go to summer camp and do things like horse back riding or painting, etc. While some believe it takes away from academics, it actually gives children a time to decompress from tbe VERy stressful academic year and to become a well balanced individual.

Another of my concerns is that private schools are looking at the loss of children from a couple extra weeks of vacation. I fear this is financially driven ... parents do not want to pay school fees when their children are not actually in school, which is reasonable. So maybe stop charging fees year round.
