Android 17 May Be the Biggest Upgrade in Years Thanks to These Features

Google has announced Gemini Intelligence, a new suite of AI-powered features coming with Android 17 this summer.

Here are the details.

AI-Powered Task Automation

Google said Gemini Intelligence can automate multi-step tasks and navigate actions on behalf of users.

The system uses visual context to complete tasks directly from on-screen content. For example, users can turn a grocery list into a shopping cart for delivery or ask Gemini to find a similar travel package from a brochure image on Expedia for a group of six.

While Gemini handles these actions in the background, users can track progress through live notifications before giving final confirmation when the task is complete.

Auto Browse on Chrome

Starting in late June, Chrome on Android will integrate Gemini features to help users research, summarize, and compare information across the web.

Google is also introducing Auto Browse, which allows Gemini to complete actions such as booking appointments or reserving parking spaces.

At the same time, Autofill with Google will use Gemini’s Personal Intelligence features to fill more text fields across apps and Chrome. Google said connecting Gemini to Autofill will remain optional.

Rambler and Widget Creation

Google is also launching a new Gboard feature called Rambler. As the name says, the feature is designed for those who ramble on and on while speaking into voice message dictations. This will shorten the message to the most important bits.

The feature allows users to speak naturally, including pauses and filler words such as “ums,” “ahs,” and “likes,” before converting speech into cleaner text output.

Rambler can also recognize multiple languages spoken within the same sentence and will clearly indicate when the feature is active.

Gemini Intelligence also introduces Create My Widget, a tool that allows users to generate custom widgets for Android and Wear OS devices using text prompts.

Updated Design Language

Google said Gemini Intelligence will also introduce an updated Android design language.

The new interface is designed to reduce distractions and keep users focused on tasks through more purposeful animations and functional visual changes.

The company said these features will arrive on the Google Pixel 10 and Samsung Galaxy S26 first. Additional Android devices, including smartwatches, cars, glasses, and laptops, will get them later on.
