Govt Asked to Reconsider Motorway and Highway Speed Limits

A parliamentary committee on Thursday called for reconsidering the government’s decision to reduce speed limits on motorways and national highways. The matter was discussed during a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) sub committee chaired by Tariq Fazal Chaudhry.

Committee member Rana Qasim Noon proposed restoring the previous speed limit for cars on motorways from 100 kilometres per hour back to 120 kilometres per hour.

The meeting was attended by the communications secretary and the Inspector General of the National Highways and Motorway Police. During the session, the committee reviewed audit reports of the Ministry of Communications for the years 2003-04 and 2009-11.

At the start of the meeting, lawmakers discussed the recently reduced speed limits on motorways and highways. Rana Qasim Noon urged the motorway police chief to revisit the decision and consider restoring the previous speed limits for motorists.

In response, the Inspector General of the motorway police told the committee that the department only implements decisions made by the government.

  • Respected Sir IG Motorway police 🚔 ,
Please Allow recommended as pr policy speed at Motorway Pakistan.

  • I am sure these politicians hardly read anything unless it effects them personally. Nor they have rational for policies they make. Motorway is made to travel quickly, otherwise the existing GT road was sufficient.

  • Time is money and as per internationally recommended minimum speed limit for motorways is 120 Km/h.As the motorways are one way traffic with three lanes ,it is safe to restore 120 km/h speed limits for motorways in Pakistan.

  • It’s better to move on GT road instead of motorway at least one can maintain speed over 100 and no challan as well.

  • Despite paying heavy toll tax and yet the speed limit is reduced, just wastage of time to cover 100 kilometers more distance.
Motorways are meant for fast travel and time saving.
120 km was appropriate, kindly restore that decision

  • Those who want to save fuel will travel at 80 if they want. Stop with the gun point enforcement. Truth be told, we find 120 to be slow.

  • Maximum speed for cars should be 120km/hr not 130 km/hr .

Most Pakistani are terrible drivers at high speed and the most annoying is when driving in the fast lane at 100km/hr. You create tree traffic hazard.

  • I think the speed should be increased even more, for cars it should be 140kmh or atleast 130kmh and respectively 120kmh or 110kmh for heavy traffic

  • People who suggest to go back to previous speed limits are looking at, as always, to their personal interests, not national interests.

    • The only sane comment, our country has assured uninterrupted supply of fuel during war crisis, among many steps one out of box solution was reduction of speed, less pressure on padel less carbon emission less fuel consumption, once strait of Hormuz gets open the speed limit will also increase, thanks to the government
