The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a $320.16 million loan for the reconstruction of key sections of the N-5 Highway under Pakistan’s resilient recovery and infrastructure rehabilitation framework.
The loan agreement was signed by Economic Affairs Secretary Muhammad Humair Karim Kidwai and AIIB Chief Investment Officer Konstantin Limitovskiy.
A separate implementation agreement was also signed between AIIB and the National Highway Authority.
The loan covers Phase-IA of the “Reconstruction of National Highway N-5. The project focuses on critical stretches of the highway through Sindh, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
It is Pakistan’s main transport artery.
The project will enhance climate-resilient infrastructure, improve regional connectivity, and support long-term trade and economic growth.
Pakistan said the initiative marks another step in strengthening cooperation with AIIB and advancing resilient national infrastructure development.
