PTA Imposes Strict Ban on Sale of Mobile Phone SIMs After Midnight

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has directed all Cellular Mobile Operators (CMOs) to suspend the sale of SIM cards across the country between 12:00 AM and 6:00 AM.

According to the directive, all authorized SIM sale channels, including franchises and retail outlets, must strictly adhere to the prescribed timings.

The PTA stated that the decision is aimed at improving oversight of SIM issuance and reducing the risk of unauthorized or fraudulent mobile connections.

The authority warned that any violation of these instructions will result in strict legal and regulatory action under applicable telecom laws.

It emphasized that operators and retailers are required to ensure full compliance with the new rules without exception.

Citizens have also been advised to purchase SIM cards only from authorized outlets during permitted hours and to complete mandatory biometric verification before activation of any new SIM, in line with national security and telecom regulations.

The PTA further encouraged the public to report violations through its Complaint Management System (CMS), PTA mobile app, WhatsApp Digital Assistant at 0315-0055055, or the toll-free helpline 0800-55055.
