Pakistan’s electricity consumers, including those served by K-Electric, may face a fresh increase in power tariffs after the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) sought a fuel cost adjustment of Rs. 1.72 per unit for April 2026.
The CPPA has submitted a petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority seeking approval for the increase under the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism.
If approved, the additional charge would be applied to consumers of K-Electric as well as all power distribution companies across the country.
The proposed increase reflects changes in fuel costs incurred during electricity generation in April.
Monthly fuel cost adjustments allow utilities to pass variations in generation costs on to consumers, resulting in either higher or lower electricity bills depending on fuel prices and the generation mix.
NEPRA has scheduled a public hearing on the petition for June 2, after which it will determine whether the requested adjustment should be fully or partially passed on to consumers.
If approved, the increase would add further pressure on households and businesses already coping with elevated energy costs.
