Govt University in Punjab Hoists Israeli Flag

The University of Chakwal has issued a clarification following controversy over the presence of an Israeli flag at a strategic conference organized by its International Relations (IR) department.

The university stated that the flag’s display was not intended to promote or recognize Israel, but rather to educate students about the threat it poses to Pakistan and the Muslim world, particularly in light of ongoing atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza.

“The purpose was to raise awareness among students and provide them with a proper understanding of the current geopolitical landscape,” the university said in a statement issued Wednesday.

The conference included an analysis of defense capabilities of multiple nations, including the United States, China, India, Iran, and Pakistan, to familiarize IR students with the military strength of both allied and adversarial countries.

The university administration described social media reports on the matter as based on misinformation and a lack of factual context, adding that it considered clarifying its position a key responsibility.

The institution reaffirmed its alignment with Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s stance on Israel, which supported Palestinian self-determination and opposed the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestine.

“We stand firmly behind the founder’s historic position, and the creation of such a state represents a violation of Muslim rights,” the statement read. “The University of Chakwal remains committed to upholding this principle.”
