BOE is reportedly trying to enter Samsung’s supply chain as a secondary OLED display supplier for the Galaxy S27 series.
Samsung’s Mobile eXperience division has requested information from BOE about OLED panel development for the Galaxy S27 and has been evaluating samples for more than a month, ZDNET Korea reported, according to SamMobile.
Industry insiders reportedly said BOE is close to meeting Samsung’s requirements for Galaxy S27 OLED panels, with no major technical issues currently blocking the process.
BOE has also offered its OLED panels at a price reportedly $5 lower per unit than Samsung Display’s panels, the report said.
The lower panel price could be attractive for Samsung MX as it looks for ways to manage component costs.
However, the possible shift could create concerns inside Samsung’s own display ecosystem. A deal with BOE may affect Samsung Display’s profitability and put pressure on component suppliers linked to Samsung’s OLED business.
Samsung has already started using outside suppliers for some devices.
Reports have said Samsung may source OLED panels for the Galaxy A57 from TCL CSOT, while Samsung Display is still expected to supply some units.
However, the Galaxy S series has so far relied on Samsung Display panels. If BOE enters the Galaxy S27 supply chain, it would mark a major change for Samsung’s flagship smartphone lineup.
Samsung has not confirmed whether BOE will supply panels for the Galaxy S27 series.
The reports suggest Samsung is still evaluating BOE’s samples and weighing the cost benefits against possible risks to its display supply chain.
