Samsung’s Next Foldables May Get Less Confusing Names After Recent Leaks

Samsung may launch its next book-style foldables with simpler names than earlier leaks suggested. According to tipster Ice Universe, the device previously rumored as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide may launch as the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the higher-end model may arrive as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra.

The change would replace earlier rumored names such as Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide and Galaxy Z Wide Fold. Those names had appeared in recent leaks, but the new naming scheme would make Samsung’s foldable lineup easier to understand.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra

The rumored Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to sit above the standard Fold 8. Current reports suggest the Ultra model could feature a 5,000mAh battery and a more advanced camera setup with a dedicated telephoto lens.

The regular Galaxy Z Fold 8, which was earlier expected to launch as the Wide model, is tipped to use a 4,800mAh battery and a simpler dual camera setup. It may also feature a wider, more compact aspect ratio compared with Samsung’s current Fold design.

Expected Hardware

Both foldables are expected to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. The phones are also expected to bring refined foldable displays, although the standard model may focus more on a wider shape, while the Ultra model remains the more premium option.

The wider Fold 8 could give Samsung a stronger answer to Chinese foldables and Apple’s long-rumored entry into the foldable phone market. Competition in the category has grown quickly, with brands pushing thinner designs, larger batteries, and more practical display ratios.

Launch Timeline

Samsung is expected to unveil its next foldables during a Galaxy Unpacked event in July. A recent report pointed to a possible July 22 launch event in London, although Samsung has not officially confirmed the date or location.

For now, the new naming structure remains based on leaks. However, if Samsung does move ahead with Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, the lineup would be easier to follow than the earlier Wide and Large branding rumors.
