Mohammad Yousuf Reveals His All-Time Pakistan Greats After Historic 1000th ODI

Former Pakistan Test batter Mohammad Yousuf has named some of the country’s greatest-ever cricketers after Pakistan marked its historic 1,000th ODI appearance with a commanding win over Australia in the series opener at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Yousuf shared his all-time Pakistan line-up on the social media platform X to celebrate the milestone. His list featured some of the biggest names from different eras of Pakistan cricket, along with a tribute to the team’s famous 1992 World Cup victory.

“Pakistan’s historic #1000th ODI win sparks greatest players,” Yousuf wrote before naming his selected XI.

He picked Imran Khan as captain and all-rounder, Wasim Akram as fast bowler, Saeed Anwar as batter, Rashid Latif as wicketkeeper and Saqlain Mushtaq as spinner.

Yousuf also named Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup final win as the most memorable moment in the country’s cricket history.

Meanwhile, Pakistan started the three-match ODI series in strong fashion, defeating Australia by five wickets in a low-scoring match.

Debutant Arafat Minhas delivered a record-breaking performance on his ODI debut. He took five wickets in a disciplined 10-over spell, helping Pakistan bowl Australia out for 200 in 42.3 overs.

Minhas became the first Pakistan bowler to take a five-wicket haul on ODI debut. He finished with figures of 5-32, the best-ever debut bowling figures by a Pakistan player in ODIs.

In response, Pakistan chased the target comfortably, reaching 204-5 in 42.3 overs.

Babar Azam led the chase with a composed 69 off 94 balls, hitting four fours and one six. Ghazi Ghori also played an important innings, scoring 65 off 92 balls with eight boundaries.

After the first ODI, both teams will travel to Lahore for the remaining matches of the series. The second and third ODIs are scheduled to be played at Gaddafi Stadium on June 2 and June 4.
