Health authorities have issued an urgent alert after a batch of the antibiotic Azomix was declared counterfeit following laboratory testing.
According to official findings, a 500mg batch of Azomix was found to be fake during routine analysis carried out by the Drug Testing Laboratory, prompting immediate action from the provincial health department.
Following the test results, the department issued a formal warning and circulated the alert through relevant regulatory channels.
The manufacturer has been directed to urgently recall the identified batch from the market and remove any remaining stock from circulation.
Drug inspectors in the field have also been ordered to take immediate steps to stop the sale and distribution of the counterfeit batch at pharmacies and medical stores.
Health officials said the action is aimed at protecting the public from potentially harmful or substandard medicines and preventing the fake batch from reaching more patients.
Further investigation is expected to determine how the counterfeit product entered the supply chain.
Authorities have asked pharmacists, healthcare providers, and distributors to remain alert and immediately report any suspected stock of the affected medicine.
