The Punjab Home Department has issued detailed security guidelines for Muharram processions across the province.
Under the new directives, all Muharram processions will be provided with a four-tier security cover to ensure public safety and maintain law and order during the religious observances.
The guidelines are aimed at improving surveillance and strengthening coordination between law enforcement agencies and procession organizers.
Authorities have barred the construction of bunkers or temporary defensive positions along procession routes. People will also not be allowed to gather on rooftops overlooking the routes as part of efforts to minimize security risks.
Police have been instructed to obtain security bonds from procession organizers. A separate security plan will also be prepared for each procession, keeping in view local requirements and possible threats.
According to the guidelines, volunteers from procession management committees will work alongside police personnel to help manage security and maintain order throughout the events.
Security officials and organizers have been directed to remain alert from the start of each procession until its conclusion. Any suspicious person will be stopped from joining the procession to protect participants and the general public.
The measures are part of the provincial government’s broader plan to ensure the peaceful observance of Muharram across Punjab.
