Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana has praised the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) role in promoting the women’s game, saying its continued support has helped raise awareness of women’s cricket in Pakistan.
Her remarks come as Pakistan prepares for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be held in England and Wales from June 12 to July 5.
Fatima said Pakistan’s performance in the tournament could have a major impact on the future of women’s cricket in the country, especially in terms of public interest and support.
“If we play good cricket in this tournament, I think in Pakistan, people will be supporting us,” Sana said.
The Pakistan skipper also highlighted the ICC’s efforts to develop the women’s format and said such initiatives have played an important role in making the game more visible in Pakistan.
“I think the ICC takes a lot of initiative about women’s cricket, so everyone knows about the game in Pakistan,” she stated.
Fatima Sana also welcomed Pakistan being awarded hosting rights for a future Women’s World Cup, calling it an encouraging step for the sport’s growth in the country.
“And finally, we got the chance to host the next World Cup in Pakistan, so that’s also a good thing, so I think a lot really depends on this tournament,” she added.
Pakistan has been placed in Group 1 for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 and will begin their campaign against arch-rivals India at Edgbaston in Birmingham on June 14.
The same venue will host Pakistan’s second group-stage match against South Africa on June 17. They will then face Bangladesh in Southampton on June 20 before taking on Australia in Leeds on June 23.
Pakistan will play their final group-stage fixture against the Netherlands in Bristol on June 27.
