Punjab to Launch E-Bike Rental Service

The Punjab government has decided to introduce an electric bike rental service in Lahore as part of its efforts to promote environmentally sustainable and modern urban transport.

According to officials, the project will be launched in phases, with 10,000 electric bikes to be deployed in the initial stage. Around 300 docking and charging stations will also be established across the city to support the service.

The Punjab Housing Authority will provide land for the stations. The stations are intended to improve connectivity between major residential and commercial areas and nearby public transport hubs.

Officials said the initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions by thousands of tonnes every year, helping address air pollution and smog in the provincial capital.

The project will be implemented in collaboration with the Lahore Parking Company, also known as LePark, the Transport Department, the Safe City Authority, and other relevant institutions.

The service is expected to provide students, office workers, and other commuters with an affordable and modern transport option. Citizens will be able to rent electric bikes through a mobile application, making daily travel easier and more accessible.

Punjab Housing Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal said the service would help reduce traffic congestion, lower fuel costs and cut environmental pollution. He added that the government is pursuing modern initiatives to improve environmental conditions and reduce the effects of smog across the province.
