Punjab Postpones English Training for 35,000 Teachers

The proposed English proficiency training program for 35,000 teachers across Punjab has been postponed for the time being after teachers’ organizations raised concerns over the assessment method.

According to reports, the program included an online test through Google Forms to assess the capacity of teachers before the training. However, teachers’ unions strongly objected to the proposed method and expressed concern over using only an online test to determine the training process.

The unions argued that assessing teachers solely on the basis of an online test would not be appropriate. Following these concerns, the authorities decided to review the program.

The Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Authority has now announced that the English proficiency training will be held at the tehsil level instead of the district level. Officials said the move is aimed at making the training process more effective and more accessible for teachers.

According to officials, the government has already released Rs. 2 billion to the Education Department for the program.

Authority officials said a new schedule is being prepared for the tehsil-level training. The schedule will be issued after final approval.
