Seven historic antiquities recovered by Italian authorities have been returned to Pakistan and arrived in Islamabad, marking another milestone in cultural cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Pakistani Embassy, the artefacts were recovered by Italy’s Guardia di Finanza and were formally handed over to the Consulate General of Pakistan in Milan in April. After completing the required procedures, the items were transported to Islamabad and officially received on Thursday.
The latest repatriation follows the return of 90 antiquities to Pakistan in October 2025. Those artefacts had been seized in 2007 by Italy’s Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage.
The embassy said Pakistan and Italy share a longstanding partnership in archaeology and heritage preservation, with cooperation extending to archaeological research, capacity building and professional training in the protection of cultural heritage.
It also highlighted Italy’s contribution to archaeological work in Pakistan, including the establishment of the Italian Archaeological Mission in Swat in 1955 by Professor Giuseppe Tucci, who was awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 1959 for his services.
