Germany has honored Sister Annette Dimigen, a German national who has spent nearly three decades serving at the Rawalpindi Leprosy Hospital, with the prestigious Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
According to the German Embassy, the medal was formally presented to Sister Annette by German Ambassador Ina Lepel during a ceremony held at the ambassador’s residence in Islamabad on June 17.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier awarded the honor on April 29 in recognition of her longstanding humanitarian services in Pakistan.
Sister Annette has been serving in Rawalpindi since 1997 and currently works as secretary-general of the Aid to Leprosy Patients (ALP) Association. She has played a key role in the administration and operations of the Rawalpindi Leprosy Hospital, also known as the German Leprosy Hospital.
The hospital, which has 97 beds, treats between 180,000 and 200,000 patients annually, including outpatients. It is one of the country’s key healthcare facilities providing treatment for leprosy, tuberculosis, multidrug-resistant tuberculosis and cutaneous leishmaniasis.
The German Embassy praised Sister Annette’s dedication, describing her as one of Germany’s finest ambassadors abroad. It said her decades of service have brought hope and care to hundreds of thousands of patients and their families.
The award ceremony was attended by hospital staff, recipients of Germany’s Order of Merit in Pakistan and representatives of the media.
